Description

One of the oldest, also one of the rarely heard instruments happens to be the “Jal Tarang” where “Jal” means water and “Tarang” means the waves that are created in the water.

It is an ancient Indian instrument used in classical music which can produce all ragas and melodies. Developed in the 17th century, the instrument is mentioned in the music dissertation- Sangeet Parijat.

The instrument was also called Jal-Yantra, a term coined by the ‘Ashtachap’ poets of the Krishna cult.

It includes a series of bowls of descending sizes laid out in the shape of a semicircle with the player sitting at the center of the circle hitting the edges of the clay bowls with wooden sticks to create sounds. These bowls are known as the ‘bowls of the raga.’

This piece has been visualized in a manner that completely does justice to the ‘bowl music’ culture of medieval times and also pays homage to the instrument which unfortunately is now only played by 4 to 5 prominent artists. The artwork done in 24-carat gold, inspired by Jal Tarang, runs across the handmade furniture which has been visualized as water, hence the colour aqua.

The log has been preserved in resin and has been given a glossy glass effect, making it the perfect addition to any space.

IMPORTANT – This table is one of its kind and cannot be recreated. We here at Aadhya make hand-painted tables and share an authenticity certificate with our products to ensure originality.
